The department of Textiles and Shawls curates pristine items of clothing, decorative hangings, and floor coverings made out of rare fabrics. These fine collectibles include shawls, sarees, Pichwai, carpets, and rugs. Over thousands of years, the traditional practices of weaving textiles have turned into endangered art forms with only a few hundred weavers continuing the legacy. Therefore, rare and antique textile pieces that preserve these indigenous art forms as symbols of heritage are highly sought after by collectors, and art and design enthusiasts.

Our collection contains various textile products created by implementing intricate techniques on opulent fabrics, invoking wonder and appreciation. The department has successfully catalogued antique Persian Kashan fine silk rugs, Kashmiri Kani Jamawar Pashmina shawls, Kurdish Bidjar wool rugs, and Rajasthani Pichwai of Shrinathji among others. We have also curated an exquisite collection of rare Pashmina sarees and shawls with Chinar Posh, Khatamband, Doranga, and Dorukha designs, and Sozni embroidery among others. A beautiful and rare Pashmina saree with Kani embroidery went under the hammer for 20,87,250 INR.
